About Danzón

Danzon, established in 2003 is a team of teachers led by Hilary Clarke committed to giving you a great salsa experience. The approach of Danzon is to bring people together to have fun and learn to dance in a friendly and encouraging space. We love to dance and hope to inspire you with the same passion.

Meet the team!

Hilary caught the salsa bug in Italy whilst staying there as a student, then, on returning to England in 1994 took classes in the UK then in Spain before coming to Ireland in 1999 where she set up her own classes.

Hilary has been teaching salsa in Dublin since 1999 and is a qualified fitness instructor and dance teacher (UKA, United Kingdom Alliance of Professional Teachers of Dancing). "I had a great time on Saturday afternoon at the beginner's workshop. It was a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon. The instructor was excellent. I was speaking to many of the other attendees and they all were saying much the same."

Justin is the DJ at Danzon Tuesdays at the Turk's Head. He prefers salsa with a good beat and an excellent brass section, but doesn't mind playing the odd bachata. As much as he loves playing salsa, there is nothing better than actually dancing to it!

She also teaches workshops around Dublin and travels a lot attending congresses all round the world as awell as social dancing in London. Mary likes salsa becuase no matter where you go in the world you have an instant social life and meet like-minded people. She likes helping people develop from being timid beginners to confident and flamboyant dancers out on the dance floor.

Trisha came onto the Danzon team in 2008 but has been dancing since she was 4. She regularly teaches the improvers' and intermediate classes on Thursdays at Strictly Salsa. She loves salsa on2 and travels all over the world with salsa. She enjoys salsa more than ballroom as it's more fun and free, you can express yourself better. She also has an interest in hip hop and jazz dance.

Neil has been with Danzon since 2003, managing the admissions and coatcheck. He enjoys the fun, social element of the salsa night, getting to know new people, but envies those out on the dance floor!

Vava started salsa classes as a beginner with Danzon at the Dance Theatre of Ireland in 2006. She came onto the team in 2009. She has a bubbly, vivacious manner. She is a member if the Dublin-based performance troupe 'Hell's Belles'. She loves salsa because it gives her energy and lets her express herself. She loves bachata and bachatango above all.
